Origin During the Islamic conquest in the 7th and 8th century, Berber horses were cross-breeded with Arab horses. This way, the Arab-Berber horse came up over 1000 years ago. Through systematic cross-breeding a new race was achieved, that combines the advantages of both origin breeds in a unique way. These horses are brave, have nerves like steel, and are robust and faithful like the Berber horse. Likewise they have the speediness, the persistence and the beauty of the Arab horses. The Berber horse – home in North Africa – is, next to the Arab horse, the second "well" of nearly all Horse breeds in the world. It is a desert horse like the better known Arab horse, but both differ clearly in Terms of appearance and personality. You can even assume that the Berber horse is older than the Arab horse. The exact parentage is still in dispute and since there are no records, this will probably not change.

BREED – SHORT PORTRAIT
These horses are held in high regard by the Moroccan Royal Family because of their character as well as their pace habitude. The Arab Berber presents itself also in this 4th gear, with pleasing but not excessive activity. It moves in a way that makes it possible to use this motion also for a long ride without too much effort. In Morocco it can happen that you ride 30 km in the morning to get to the next market and back the same day. Doing this, you appreciate a comfortable horse! |
